Trade School Projects

I was digging around in my toolbox, saw these and thought they might be of interest. They are very rough, made out of brass and have been kicking about in my toolbox for at least 15 years.

They still have a certain beauty to them, though. There’s something in the crudeness of them that appeals to me. Perhaps it’s just simply that I made them and they bring back memories of being an apprentice.

These are pieces that we would make as practice to learn the hand skills to make jewellery. Some of them were pieces that were submitted at the end of the week of school for marking, to make sure I passed that module. Quite proud of some of the mechanisms I made – roller catches for pins, sprung clasps and clips for earrings.
