Wedding Day Jewellery: What Should You Wear?
A matching set of ruby bridal jewellery, including a pair of drop earrings and a drop pendant
If you’re a bride-to-be, there are probably so many things still to get around to on your to-do list. And even though it might not take precedence over booking your wedding reception or ordering your cake, one thing you shouldn’t overlook is your wedding day jewellery.
While it might not seem as urgent as choosing your venue or sending out invitations, deciding what jewellery to wear on your wedding day plays a huge part in bringing your bridal look together. The right pieces can enhance your outfit, and clearly you don’t want to be weighed down under a mismatched assortment of rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
But it can be tricky when you have so many much-loved pieces in your jewellery box.
So, if you’re wondering how to choose jewellery for your wedding, luckily for you, we’re here to help you narrow down your choices and decide what wedding jewellery is right for you on your special day.
What Jewellery Should You Wear on Your Wedding Day?
Of course, every bride (and groom - let’s not forget the groom!) is different, so we will hold fire on telling you what bridal jewellery you absolutely must be wearing.
In fact, our most heartfelt piece of advice would be to say: you do you! Whether your bridal style is minimalist elegance, vintage glamour, or modern romantic, your wedding jewellery should feel like a natural extension of you. From statement earrings to subtle bracelets, the key is choosing pieces that complement your dress, hairstyle, and overall aesthetic - without overpowering them.
But “What jewellery should I wear on my wedding day?” is a question we get asked a lot by couples who come to us for their bespoke engagement rings, so let’s see if we can narrow that, admittedly rather vague, advice down a little.
Incorporate Your Everyday Style into Your Wedding Jewellery
By this, we mean you know what you like, so don’t be tempted to think that just because it’s a special occasion, you need to choose wedding day jewellery that is so far removed from what you’d normally wear that you feel uncomfortable in it.
If your usual go-to earrings are a pair of simple silver studs, you could switch it up and opt for elegant pearls or diamonds instead.

Trust us, it might be tempting to go all out because it’s your wedding day jewellery, but a huge pair of emerald chandeliers is probably just going to make you feel self-conscious, and you’ll end up fiddling with them all day.
Likewise, if you’re a bona fide maximalista, don’t feel like you have to ‘tone it down’ just because it’s your wedding day. Your bridal jewellery should be exactly that - yours.
Trust your instincts and choose what you love, whether it’s a piece you own already or something new. Bridal jewellery wedding choices should never feel forced. Your jewellery for your wedding day should celebrate who you are, not mask it.
This brings us to…
Bridal Jewellery: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue
Something blue - a pear-shaped sapphire and diamond drop pendant
Wedding traditions can be a lovely way to personalise your look. Incorporating sentimentality into your bridal jewellery through meaningful heirlooms or gifts brings another layer of beauty to your day.
An antique bangle that belonged to your great-grandmother. A new, beautiful personalised letter pendant that you’ll wear time and time again. A treasured ring that belongs to your mother-in-law. And, of course, let’s not forget something blue.
If you’re already wearing a stunning blue sapphire engagement ring, you have the ‘blue’ very nicely covered.
But you could also incorporate blue into other pieces of wedding jewellery, such as your earrings or even a gorgeous vintage reproduction jewelled hair clip.
One thing we would say is if you have your heart set on wearing a family heirloom as your ‘something old’ wedding day jewellery - such as your grandmother’s pearls or your great aunt’s diamond necklace - if at all possible, take it with you when you go dress shopping. This ensures your bridal jewellery enhances your gown.
The last thing you want is for this piece to look like an afterthought; something you’ve just thrown into the mix because you can’t bear the thought of not wearing it as a part of your wedding day jewellery.
Should Wedding Day Jewellery Match?
One of the biggest questions brides ask is whether all their wedding jewellery needs to match. The short answer? Not necessarily.
You probably already have your engagement and wedding ring picked out (and if it’s a bespoke ladies' wedding ring from Simon Wright, all the better!)
And no doubt those two pieces have been designed, or chosen, to complement each other. But don’t let this stop you from wearing other pieces of wedding jewellery that might not traditionally match.
Just make sure the overall look is cohesive and your jewellery is of a similar style, even if it’s not the same metal. If you’re going for a more eclectic vibe, choose bridal jewellery pieces with a unifying element - such as similar tones, gemstones, or design motifs. Mixing metals or styles can work beautifully when done with intention.
Having said that, a pair of stylish bespoke cufflinks for the groom will tie your bridal jewellery and his accessories together beautifully. It’s not just about the buttonhole and tie!
But at the end of the (wedding) day, we say, stay true to yourself and your style, and you can’t go wrong.
