A Gent’s Guide to Engagement Rings

When you’ve been in a relationship for a while there comes a time when you may feel that you’re ready to take the next step. Deciding to propose is exciting – and sometimes nerve racking! – and involves some careful planning to make sure every detail is perfect.

Choosing the right location and thinking about what you’re going to say are important, but let’s face it, everything comes down to the ring. So here are a few tips to help you in your search for a beautiful engagement ring for your significant other.

Pay Attention

If the idea of choosing a ring in secret leaves you feeling completely bewildered, don’t panic! There are probably a million tiny clues to help you figure out what your partner wants, so all you need to do is look out for them. If they aren’t being vocal about their preferences, look at their existing jewellery to see whether they prefer gold or silver, traditional or modern, flashy or discreet.

Find out Their Ring Size

This is not easily dropped into conversation, so a good tactic is to borrow one of their rings to have it measured. Alternatively, enlist the help of family and friends to try and bring it up in a way that doesn’t link back to you and spoil the surprise.

Involve Them in the Design

Another alternative is to involve your would-be fiancee in choosing the ring. By presenting them with a substitute piece or even an early draft of a bespoke design, taking time to developing a unique ring as a couple can become the first step towards your wedding plans.

Here at Simon Wright Jewellery we create beautiful bespoke engagement rings in our London studio. We will work closely with you from the early stages of the design to ensure that your rings perfectly complements your taste and becomes a lasting legacy of your relationship.
